Ability News

Welcome to Ability!

All too often, especially for people with a disability, the focus is on what can’t be done.

It’s hugely frustrating. We already live with our incapacity every hour of every day; the last thing I need is another voice defining me by my limitations.

That’s why we’ve started this blog.

To share news about the National Disability Insurance Scheme and what it’s like to live (with a disability) in Australia today. At first we’ll be focussing on Canberra but we hope to quickly spread to other parts of Australia and, critically, provide a supportive environment for people to share their stories. Yes, it’s information that will be of particular use for a particular subset of Australian society, but what this blog hopes to do is achieve something more than just inform people. That’s only the starting point.

The real key is to connect and empower us all.

Enjoy this blog!

It’s for you.
